Why should we #SaveTheBees?

Bees are some of the most valuable members of our ecosystem, but most of us don't give them nearly enough recognition. For example, 1 in every 3 bites of food we eat relies on pollination by bees. Without them, we would lose many fruits and vegetables we love to eat. Not only that, many of our livestock rely on the plants pollinated by bees, which in turn would causes us to lose our entire food source. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), bees of all sorts pollinate approximately 75 percent of the fruits, nuts and vegetables in the USA. Bees also produce honey, which is used for flavoring and medicinal purposes.

However, we are noticing that the bee population is decreasing. This is due to factors like habitat loss, use of pesticides, climate change, parasites and diseases, and invasive species. Thankfully, we can each play a hand in helping to revitalize the population. By using pollinator-safe pesticides, building bee gardens (think- lots of flowers, fruits, and "weed" plants!), recycling, and pushing large corporations and politicians to help, we can save the bees. This is why we are proud to be donating a portion of proceeds to The Honeybee Conservancy. The Honeybee Conservancy has incredible programs to help- from Sponsor-A-Hive to education and outreach to even doing research to identify factors harming bees.
