We at Compassion Bands are incredibly saddened by the news of the passing of John Lewis. Our hearts go out to his friends and family. In honor of his legacy, 100% of our proceeds from our BLM bracelets will be donated to Black Lives Matter causes from now until midnight Monday (7/20).
John Lewis was a pinnacle for the Civil Rights Movement. He was a chair for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He also lead the Bloody Sunday march, the civil rights march on Selma that turned fatal due to police violence. He participated in multiple protests resulting in his arrests. By his early 20s, he'd become one of the Big Six in civil rights leaders.
In the 1980s he began his career as a politician as city councilman and later became a member of the House of Representatives. He has received multiple awards, including the MLK Jr. Nonviolent Peace Prize, JFK Profile in Courage, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
A documentary entitled Good Trouble, the story of his life, is set to be released in 2020. For more information about John Lewis, please visit https://johnlewis.house.gov/john-lewis/biography.
